1959 Les Paul Junior restoration
This guitar had obviously had a hard life with many modifications along the way. At some point its had an extra pickup fitted and probably a humbucker in the bridge possition. I'm certainly no expert on these guitars and there doesn't seem to be a great deal of literature on them so I was unable to research the guitar as thoroughly as I would have liked.
The guitar came to me fitted with the wrong bridge that had required the body to be redrilled so a lot of work had to be done to relocate the original wrap a round bridge, but everything worked out well in the end.
As can be seen from the pictures the guitars owner is Tony who originaly played with the 70's punk band The Angelic Upstarts and now using the guitar in his long running band Long Tall andShorty (Click here to go to the website) and along side Gary Bushell.
Old paint removed and ready to start repairs
Here's the front pickup cavity being filled
A lot of work has been done between the last two pictures, notice that the guitar had been routed for extra tone and volume controls.
Here's the guitar finished, Tony wanted a heavy relic, a semi transparent blonde finish wasn't possible due to the extensive body repairs so a heavier blonde coat was applied.
Here's a close up of the body, notice the aged 'new' bridge.
Back view, a few of the non original features I have left on the guitar, in my view this just gives the guitar more of a history.
And the refinished headstock with as original gold lettering
And these last two Tony 'in action'
